Temperature is back in the low 20's. Let's give it a shot. One of these days I'll replace that block heater cord.
I don't know where that could have possibly come from. Must have been soot sprites.

Our 300TD started even in sub-zero temperatures with the block heater. I think the lowest it started without the heater was around 7 degrees. It took nearly 4 whole cranks to start, as opposed to the typical 1 crank start.

Single digits is where it struggles. I'm certain once I replace the cord it will be fine in even sub-zero temps.

That old familiar wonderful racket. Diesel trucks don't even sound like this anymore.

This was the Jetta last week. -20*C and parked for 2 days. it hasn't been cold enough to properly test the glow plugs after getting it fixed, but it's been starting okay though.

At least your started, haha. Consecutive nights of negative degrees did mine in. Once we're back into the teens(fahrenheit) it is usually good.

I remember an 83-84' Mpls winter, -30 F that night, and me not plugging it in. Was running synthetic oil at the time in my Jetta, and got 7 a-ruh's out of it on a morning where I *had* to be at work.
*a-ruh* pause 1 *a-ruh* pause 1.5 *a-ruh* *cough* *a-ruh* pause .75 *a-ruh* *cough* *a-ruh* *cough cough* *a-ruh* *cough catch cough catch catch cough catch* and it was running.
Just bowed my head, and gave thanks. Promised to plug it in for sure after that. After I moved to SF, people asked why my car had an AC plug hanging down under the bumper. I would just shake my head and smile. You can't explain cold.
